The SW Triathlon Series came to a thrilling end at Bowood House on Saturday for Crispin School pupil Charlie Cook. Qualification was at stake for next month's Inter Regional Championships to be held at Mallory Park, Leicester.
The 400m lake swim saw the first four swimmers emerge from the water just 3 seconds apart before the long steep run to transition. There was nothing to separate them as they started the 9k bike leg and the leading pack rode away from the field during the first lap.
All the riders took their share of leading the group during laps two and three and as they left transition for the second time, there was nothing to separate them before the 2.5k run.
TS5C supported athlete Cook ran strongly with the leaders and only lost ground having twisted his knee on the downward approach, finishing just 2 seconds behind the 2nd placed athlete in a comfortable 3rd. The podium finish secured Cook a place on the IRC Team and earned him a 2nd place overall in the SW Series.
Focus now returns to impending English Channel Relay training and a night swim at Weymouth this weekend before heading off to Dover on the 13th in aid of Make A Wish. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ichthyosaur.
